The MDI Trojans were stunned by the Orono Red Riots 51-49 as Orono's Nate Desisto threw up an off-balance 3-pointer that banked in off the glass at the buzzer on Senior Night, Tuesday, January 31st in Bar Harbor at Bernard Parady Gymnasium.

MDI trailed 10-9 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Desisto had 4 points for Orono, with Connor Robertson, Jackson Coutts and Keenen Collett each chipping in 2 points. For MDI Mac Shea had 6 points, and Andrew Phelps had a 3-pointer.

MDI led at the half, 20-16. In the 2nd Quarter Riley Swanson had a 3-pointer and Andrew Phelps, Gus Reeves, Drew Rich and Russell Kropff each had 2 points. For Orono Keenan Collett had 4 points, Jake Koffman had 2 points, going 2-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI increased their lead to 9, 42-33. In the 3rd Quarter, Riley Swanson drained 3 3-pointers for MDI while Derek Collin had 7 points and Russell Kropff 6 points. For Orono,Nate Desisto had 11 points including a 3-pointer, with Jackson Coutts, Keenan Collett and Jake Koffman each chipping in 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Orono outscored MDI 18-7. The big play was Nate Desisto's banked in 3-pointer as time expired. Orono was playing for the last shot with about 6 seconds left, with MDI up 49-48. MDI stole the ball and Orono fouled. MDI couldn't convert the open end of the 1-1 and Orono ended up winning on Desisto's shot. In the 4th Desisto had 7 points, Jake Koffman 4 and Collett 4. For MDI, Russell Kropff had a 3-pointer and Gus Reeves and Aaron Snurkowski each had 2 points.

MDI was led by Riley Swanson with 12 points while Russell Kropff had 11 points. The Trojans shot an uncharacteristically poor 1-8 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Nate Desisto with a game high 25 points. Keenan Collett had 12 points. The Red Riots were 8-12 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 14-2 with 2 regular season games remaining, at Houlton on Saturday, February 4th at 1:30 PM and at Ellsworth on Thursday, February 9th at 7 PM. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Orono is now 12-3 with 3 regular season games remaining, home on Friday, February 3rd against PCHS and then away on Tuesday February 7th at Foxcroft Academy and then on Thursday February 9th at Old Town.
