The MDI Trojans proved to be ungracious Homecoming hosts on Friday, October 13th as they thoroughly beat the Leavitt Hornets 36-22. It was 36-0 at the end of the first half when MDI geared down and put in their second and third team for the balance of the game.

MDI won the coin toss and deferred, opting to kick off and receive the ball in the 2nd Half. You knew it was going to be MDI's night when Andrew Phelps kicked off, driving the ball hard into the shins of one of the Hornet's upbacks. The ball rebounded to MDI, and the Trojans recovered on the Leavitt 49 yard line.

MDI marched down the field, on a 9 play drive, that took 3:51 before Croix Albee powered in from 1 yard out. Billy Kerley ran in for the 2 point conversion and MDI was up 8-0.

Leavitt took over on their own 35 yard line, and despite two faked punts, that resulted in 1st downs, were forced to turnover the ball on downs. MDI took over on their own 44 yard line with 4:49 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

It only took 3:26 and 7 plays before MDI was in the end zone again. The big play was a 33 yard touchdown run by Colby Lee. Albee ran in the 2 point conversion and with 1:23 left in the 1st Quarter MDI led 16-0.

Leavitt took over on their own 30 yard run, and was forced to punt the ball. MDI took over on their own 33 yard line with 3.5 seconds remaining in the 1st Quarter. 7 plays and 3:21 later, Andrew Phelps ran in from 7 yards out. Lee ran in the 2 point conversion, and with 9:32 remaining in the 1st Half, MDI was up 24-0.

Leavitt took over on their own 25 yard line, and again, MDI's defense forced another turnover on downs, and MDI took over on the Leavitt 32 yard line with 8:02 remaining in the 1st Half. 2:12 later and 6 plays, Colby Lee ran in from 19 yards out, for his 2nd touchdown of the game. This time the 2 point conversion was no good, and MDI led 30-0 with 5:52 remaining in the 1st Half.

Leavitt took over on their own 34 yard line, and MDI's defense forced a Hornet punt. MDI took over on their own 43 yard line with 3:37 remaining in the 1st Half. The drive took 3:01 and Albee socred his 2nd touchdown of the evening from 2 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good, and MDI led 36-0 with 36.8 seconds remaining in the 1st Half.

Leavitt returned the kick to their 25 yard line, and time expired before they could score. The end of the 1st Half saw MDI up 36-0. MDI's racked up 237 yards rushing in the 1st Half, while Leavitt had 53 yards passing and 11 yards rushing.

MDI played their 2nd and 3rd teams in the 2nd Half.It was a scoreless 2nd Half until Leavitt's 1st team scored on MDI's reserves with 6:06 in the 4th Quarter on a 45 yard pass from Wyatt Hathaway to Damion Calder. The 2 point conversion was good, and that made the score 36-8. The teams returned to stopped time, as the lead was no longer 35 points or more in the 2nd Half.

Hathaway completed another touchdown pass, this time a 45 yard pass to Ryan Thibault. The 2 point conversion was good, and with 3:31 left, MDI's lead was 20 points, 36-16.

MDI scored their last touchdown with 1.6 seconds left, as Hathaway threw a 4 yard pass to Hayden Varney. The 2 point conversion was no good, and MDI won the game 36-22.

MDI now 6-1 will play their final regular season home game on Friday, October 20th against the Nokomis Warriors with the pregame starting at 6:40 and the kickoff at 7 PM.
