MDI Routs Hermon 62-6
The MDI Trojans defeated Hermon 62-6 in Hermon on Friday night, September 25th as they received touchdowns from their offense, defense and special teams.
Hermon won the toss and elected to receive. Isaiah Keene kicked off and the ball went to the Hermon 32 yard line, but no one from Hermon covered the kick, and MDI pounced on the ball, so the Trojans took over. Three plays later, Taner Bickford ran the ball in from the 28 yard line, a drive that took 1:07. The 2-point conversion was good and MDI led 8-0. That was the 4th time this season (every game) that MDI has scored on the opening drive!
Hermon then took over on their own 19 yard line, and after three running plays were forced to punt. Drew Rich took the punt on the 46 yard line, and ran it back for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good and with 8:28 left in the 1st Quarter MDI was up 16-0.
Hermon then took over at their own 29 yard line. Seven plays later in a drive that ate up 4:19 Austin Morse ran the ball in from 17 yards out. The 2-point conversion was no good and with 3:40 remaining in the 1st half MDI led 16-6.
The Trojans took over at their own 43 yard line, and they needed only two plays before Taner Bickford scored his 2nd touchdown of the night. This time it was a 53 yard run, in a drive that just took 46 seconds. The 2-point conversion was good, as Croix Albee ran the ball in, and with 2:50 left in the 1st Quarter, MDI was up 24-6.
Hermon then had the ball on their own 26 yard line, and was moving the ball before Tyler Carmichael was picked off by Chris Farnsworth who ran the interception back 50 yards for a pick-6 touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good as Albee ran it in, and with 11:48 left in the 1st Half, MDI was up 32-6.
Hermon then took over on their 36 yard line and on their first play, they fumbled the ball. The ball was picked up by MDI's Graham Good, who ran it back 38 yards for the touchdown, and Farnsworth's run was good for the 2-point conversion, and with 11:21 remaining in the half, it was 40-6 MDI.
Hermon was then forced to punt, and a poor snap, allowed MDI to take over with excellent field position, on the Hermon 26. Three plays later, Croix Albee ran it in from 5 yards outs, and the 2-point conversion was good and the score with 7:48 left in the half was 48-6 Trojans.
Elijah Joyce scored from 15 yards out for MDI with 2:11 remaining in the 1st Half. Drew Rich kicked the extra point and the 1st Half ended with MDI up 55-6..
A new rule this year, allows for running time in the 2nd half, when 1 team is up by 35 or more points, so the entire 2nd half was played in running time. At this point both teams were playing their reserves
The lone score in the 2nd Half happened with 6:41 left in the game, as Jakob Gregory ran it in from 3 yards out. Rich's kick was good, and the final score was MDI 62 Hermon 6.
MDI now 3-1 plays host to John Bapst on Friday, October 2nd, in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio beginning at 6:40 PM.
