Former MDI Trojan Matt Ketchen, Class of 1996, will have his Maine Maritime Academy #40 Baskeball Jersey retired in a ceremony on Saturday, January 23rd at Smith Gymnasium at Maine Maritime Academy.

Ketchen is a member of the Class of 2000 at  Maine Maritime Academy and a native of Mount Desert Island and MDI High School. He was a four-year letter winner and team captain for the Mariners, when they won the inaugural North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship.

Ketchen was a MCBCWA Player of the Week selection, NAC First Team All-Conference honoree and MVP of the NAC 2000 Championship Tournament. He currently holds the record for most steals (185) and ranks second all-time in 3-pointers made (170). He finished his career at Maine Maritime Academy with 1,276 points (5th all-time), 261 assists (3rd all-time) and 430 rebounds as a guard.

In 2013 Ketchen was inducted into the William J. Mottola Athletic's Hall of Fame. Ketchen, an avid Mariner Basketball supporter and a Captain with the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company, has been instrumental in organizing the annual Maine Maritime Academy Basketball Sunset Cruise
