MDI Girls Run Over Caribou 88-63

The MDI Girl's Basketball team exploded with a season high 88 points to defeat the Caribou Vikings 88-63 in Caribou, on Friday, January 24th, 2014.

MDI jumped out to an early 23-15 lead in the 1st Quarter. Sierra Myrick had 10 points in the quarter for MDI including a 3-pointer. Hannah Shaw had 6 points and Sarah Phelps had 5 points including a 3-pointer. For Caribou, Maddie Doucette hit 2 3-pointers for 6 points, Shyanne Barnes had 4 points and Morgan Outing had a 3-pointer for 3 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, Sarah Phelps added 10 points for MDI, draining 2 long 3-pointers. Sierra Tapley added a 3-pointer as did Sara Norberg for the Trojans, who were successful with 6 3's in the first half. MDI led 52-31 at the end of the 1st Half. Maddie Doucette added another 3-pointer for Caribou and Sam Lizzotte added 4 points for the Vikings.

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, MDI led 74-46 and were substituting liberally. Phelps poued in 6 more points, to finish with a career high, and game high 21 points.Hannah Shaw added 5 points for the Trojans. Caribou got 4 points from Bria Judd including a 3-pointer, and Rachel Soucy added 7points in the quarter, going 5-8 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter, MDI had a 3-pointer from Haley Littlefield, and also Abbe Miller saw her first varsity minutes, as she was called up from the Freshmen Team this week. Caribou received another 3 pointer from Maddie Doucette and Bria Judd.

MDI was led by Sarah Phelps with 21 points, including 3 3-pointers. Sierra Myrick had 13 points including 2 3-pointers, and Sierra Tapley had 12 points including a 3-pointer. MDI went 10-14 from the free throw line. Caribou was led by Rachel Soucy with 14 points and Maddie Doucette had 12 points, all coming from 4 3-pointers. Bria Judd finished with 10 points including 2 3-pointers for the Vikings. Caribou was 20-31 from the free throw line.

With the victory, MDI improves to 13-1, and play at Presque Isle at 1 PM on Saturday, January 25th. Presque Isle defeated Ellsworth 57-53 on Friday night, and are riding a 58 game unbeaten streak, their last loss coming to John Bapst in 2011. The MDI- Presque Isle game will be aired on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Caribou falls to 4-9 and will play host to Ellsworth on Saturday, January 25th at 11:30 AM.
