The MDI Girl's Basketball team traveled to Hermon on Friday, January 17th to take on the Hermon Hawks in a rematch of a game from Friday, December 13th where the Trojans defeated Hermon 64-47 in Bar Harbor, and the MDI Girls defeated Hermon again, 72-54.

MDI jumped out to an early lead 20-16 in the 1st Quarter. Sierra Myrick, who had 4 3-pointers in MDI's victory over Foxcroft Academy on January 14th, 74-46, started where she ended, swishing 4 3-pointers to lead MDI in the 1st Quarter. Molly Carroll had 6 points for MDI. Hermon was led by Jenna Crouse with 5 points including a 3-pointer and Claire Peterson with 1 3-pointer.

In the 2nd Quarter, MDI outscored Hermon 12-4 to take a 32-20 lead at the end of the 1st Half. MDI's defense stepped up the pressure leading to quite a few Hermon turnovers, and Hermon did not score a field goal in the 2nd Quarter, as their 4 points came from the free throw line. Keely McConomy scored 6 points in the quarter for MDI and Sara Norberg hit a 3-pointer.

MDI continued the defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter, and Hermon didn't score until midway through the quarter. MDI outscored Hermon 23-7 in the quarter. Sarah Phelps had 8 points including 2 3-pointers, and Sierra Tapley had 8 points, including 6 in a row in less than 2 minutes. Bryanne Crouse had a 3-pointer for the Hawks. At the end of the 3rd Quarter, MDI led 55-27

In the 4th Quarter MDI put in the reserves, and Hermon took advantage of this, outscoring MDI in the 4th Quarter 27-17, as they kept their starters in for most of the quarter, but MDI's lead was too great. Hermon received 9 points from Claire Peterson, including a 3-pointer, and 4 points from Jenna Crouse including a 3-pointer, and 6 points from Allessa Oakes. MDI was paced by Sierra Tapley with 5 points as she went 5-7 from the free throw line.

Sierra Myrick had a game high 16 points for MDI, and Sarah Phelps had 14 points  while Sierra Tapley had 13 points. Claire Peterson had 16 points for Hermon, and Jenna Crouse had 9 points for the Hawks.

The MDI Lady Trojans finished the week 3-0, and are now 12-1 on the season. They are off until Friday, January 24th when they travel to Caribou to play the Vikings at 5 PM and then the Presque Isle Wildcats on Saturday, January 25th at 1 PM. Both games will be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Hermon fell to 4-7 and travel to East Corinth to play the Central Red Devils on Monday, January 20th at 7 PM.
