The 2014-15 MDI Girl's Basketball Team became the first Girl's Basketball team in MDI's history, to finish the regular season 18-0, but in talking to the girls and Coach Barker, although pleased with going undefeated in the regular season, their mission is squarely on bringing the Gold Ball back to the Island!  MDI defeated John Bapst early Saturday morning 62-44 at the Cross Insurance Center.

MDI jumped out to an early 25-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Sierra Tapley had 9 points for MDI including a 3-pointer, while Sarah Phelps had 8 points, with 2 3-pointers, Kelsey Shaw had 6 points and Darcy Kanu had 2 points. For John Bapst, Crystal Bell had 4 points, Maegan True had 4 points and Madison Higgins had 2 points.

At the half, MDI led 34-23. Sara Norberg drained a 3-pointer for the Trojans, and Molly Carroll, Kelsey Shaw and Sierra Tapley had 2 points each. For The Crusaders, Crystal Bell had 6 points, hitting 2 3-pointers deep from the right side, Ture had 4 points, Hannah Phillippon had 2 points and Gracie Phillippon had 1 point.

In the 3rd Quarter, MDI outscored John Bapst 15-4 to taqke a 49-27 lead. Tapley had 7 points, Kanu 4 points, Keely McConomy and Carroll each had 2 points for MDI.  Gracie Phillippon had 2 points and Madison Higgins had 2 points for the Crusaders.

In the 4th Quarter, both teams went deep in their bench. Jocelyn Bell hit 2 3-pointers for John Bapst for 6 points, Maegan True had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, Crystal Bell had 4 points and Madison Higgins had 2 points for John Bapst. For MDI, Tapley had 5 points including a 3-pointer, Kanu had 4 points, Emma Watras had 2 point and Cassidy Parady had 2 points.

MDI was led by Sierra Tapley with 23 points, while Darcy Kanu had 10 points. The Trojans went 6-7 from the free throw line.

John Bapst was led by Crystal Bell with 14 points, and Maegan True, playing her last regular season game for the Crusaders had 13 points. John Bapst was 3-7 from the free throw line.

MDI, the number 1 seed will play Saturday, February 14th at the Cross Insurance Center at 3:05 PM against the winner of the #8-#9 matchup which appears to be Ellsworth (#8) - Gardiner (#9). Those two teams should meet on Tuesday, February 10th. We will have that game, as well as all MDI and Ellsworth games from the Cross Insurance Center on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
