MDI Girls Defeat Old Town 75-48

The MDI Girls opened the 2013-14 season with an impressive 75-48 victory over the Old Town Coyotes in Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town, Friday December 6th.

MDI's coach, Brent Barker said that one of the keys for this years team was to run the floor, and to have balanced scoring, and the Trojans achieved both of those goals in their first game, as they went on a 8-0 run with 5:41 left in the 1st Quarter, and when Old Town cut the lead to 10 point in the 3rd Quarter, MDI called a timeout and then went on a 9-0 run to lead 43-24 with 4:47 left in the 3rd.

MDI was led by Sierra Myrick and Sarah Phelps, with 12 points. Kelsey Shaw had 10 points. MDI hit 8 3-pointers, 2 by Myrick, 2 by Phelps, 2 by Sara Norberg and 1 each by Molly Carroll and Sierra Tapley.

Old Town was led by Kayla Madden with 13 points including 3 3-pointers. Lauren Martin had 11, including 1 3-pointer. Karrah Hussey and Jordyn Demont each hit a 3-pointer for the Coyotes.

MDI 1-0 on the season, plays at Foxcroft Academy (1-0) on Tuesday, December 10 at 7 PM. That game will be aired by WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:40 PM. Old Town next plays John Bapst Tuesday night December 10th at 7 PM at the Cross Insurance Center.
