MDI Girls Defeat Oceanside 44-33 [RECAP/STATS/PHOTOS]
The MDI Girls Basketball Team won ugly, defeating Oceanside 44-33 in Rockland on Friday, January 5th. The Trojans were 2-12 from the free throw line before going 9-14 in the 4th Quarter to finish 11-26 in the game.
MDI led 8-4 at the end of the 1st Quarter as Maddy Candage had 6 points and Emily Banks 2 points for the Trojans. Gabby Simmons and Hope Butler each had 2 points for the Mariners.
The score was tied 16-16 at the end of the 1st Half, as Oceanside outscored MDI 12-8 in the 2nd Quarter. Simmons had 4 points for Oceanside, Raechel Joyce had a 3 pointer, Sara Dorr and Kassidy Robinson each had 2 points and Butler was 1-2 from the free thrwo line. For MDI Rachelle Swanson had 4 points with a 3-pointer, Banks and Lily Cook each had 2 points.
MDI took a 3 point lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter 30-27. In the 3rd Quarter Swanson had 7 points with a 3-pointer for MDI, Maddy Good had 3 points and Banks and Alexis Clarito had 2 points each. For Oceanside Joyce had 7 points with a 3-pointer and Butler had 4 points.
In the 4th Quarter MDI went 9-14 from the free throw line. Candage had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Swanson had 5 points, Good 2 points and Julia Watras and Alexis Clarito 1 point each. For the Mariners, Molly Gould, Butler and Dorr each had 2 points.
MDI was led by Rachelle Swanson with 16 points and Maddy Candage had 11 points.
Oceanside was led by Raechel Joyce with 10 points and Hope Butler had 9 points. The Mariners were 5-10 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 6-1 and will play at Ellsworth on Tuesday, January 9th in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:30 PM and tip-off at 7 PM
Oceanside is now 3-4 and plays host to Hermon on Monday, January 8th at 6 PM.
