MDI Girls Defeat Ellsworth 73-32
The MDI Girls were scheduled to host the Ellsworth Girls Friday night, January 3rd, but Mother Nature dictated that the game was to be played Saturday afternoon January 4th, after 5-8 inches of snow came down in the Ellsworth/Bar Harbor area Friday morning via Winter Storm Hercules.
The delay didn't seem to bother the MDI Girls, as thy came away with a 73-32 victory at Bernard Parady Gymnasium.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 18-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, as Sierra Myrick and Sarah Phelps each drained 3-pointers for MDI and Hannah Shaw had 6 points for MDI and Morgan Card had 4 points for Ellsworth.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI outscored Ellsworth 20-7, as MDI was able to push the ball up the court. Kelsey Shaw had 7 points for the Trojans in the 2nd Quarter, and Sierra Tapley had 5 points including a 3 pointer. Morgan Card scored 6 points for Ellsworth. At the end of the half, MDI led 38-13.
In the 3rd Quarter, Sierra Myrick added 2 more 3-pointers for MDI, and Hannah Shaw added 8 poinhts. For Ellsworth, Morgan Card had 6 points, and Emily Berry drained a 3-pointer. After 3 Quarters, MDI was up 56-26.
The 4th Quarter continued to belong to MDI. Sierra Myrick hit her 4th 3-pointer of the game, and she was one of seven Trojans scoring in the quarter. The final was MDI 73 Ellsworth 32.
MDI was led by Hannah Shaw with 17 points, and she is now 38 points away from 1000 points in her career. Sierra Myrick had 14 and Kelsey Shaw had 11 for MDI. MDI went 7-13 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth was led by Morgan Card with 18 points, and Emily Berry added 6. Ellsworth was 3-11 from the free throw line.
With the victory, MDI improves to 7-1, and next plays Tuesday, January 7th when they host Old Town at 7 PM. They also play at George Steven's Academy on Thursday January 9th, and then finish the week at home on Saturday, January 11th with a 3:30 game against John Bapst.
Ellsworth is now 3-5 on the season. They play host to Hermon on Tuesday, January 7th, travel to Sumner on Thursday, January 9th and play at home against Calais on Saturday, January 11th at 6:30 PM.
