The MDI Girls Basketball Team celebrated Senior Recognition Night on Thursday, February 8th, beating Ellsworth 41-28 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium. It was the last time that seniors Alahana Mild and ,Emily Banks would play on their home court.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 9-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Trinity Montigny had 4 points, Hannah Sargent (celebrating her 18th birthday) had 3 points and Sara Shea 2 points. For MDI Maddy Candage had 5 points and Maddy Good had 2 points.

MDI outscored Ellsworth 17-6 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 24-15 lead at Halftime. Julia Watras and Emily Banks had 4 points each for MDI, Hannah Chamberlain drained a 3-pointer and Lindsey McEachern, Good and Candage each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Ellsworth Montigny had a 3-pointers, Kaylay Duhaime had 2 points and Sargent was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth cut the lead to 8 points in the 3rd Quarter and at one point had reduced the deficit to 2 points, but MDI went on a late surge, and the score was 33-25 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For Ellsworth Montigny and Shea each had 5 points, with each scoring a 3-pointer. For MDI Alexis Clarito and Chamberlain had a 3-pointer and Banks scored 3 points.

In the 4th Quarter Chamberlain had 4 points for MDI and Candage and McEachern chipped in with 2 points each. For Ellsworth Sieera Andrews had 2 points and Shea was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI was led by Hannah Chamberlain with 10 points and Maddy Candage had 7 points. The Trojans were 4-7 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with a game high 12 points and Sara Shea had 8 points. The Eagles were 5-12 from the free throw line.

MDI finishes the season with a 14-4 record, good for the 3rd seed. They have an automatic bye and will open the Tourney at the Cross Insurance Center in the first game on Friday, February 16th at 5 PM and will play the winner of the Winslow-Orono prelim game. The MDI Quarterfinal game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device

Ellsworth finishes the season with a 10-8 record and are the 10th seed. They will play in a prelim game tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 13th at 6th seed Waterville. The winner of the prelim game will take on the 2nd seed John Bapst Crusaders on Friday, February 16th at 6:30 PM from the Cross Insurance Center.
