MDI Girls 67 John Bapst 25
The MDI Girl's Basketball Team cruised to a 67-25 victory over the John Bapst Crusaders on Thursday, December 17th at the Cross Insurance Center to remain perfect on the season, and set up a battle of the unbeaten when Houlton travels to MDI on Saturday afternoon.
MDI jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the 1st Quarter. Kelsey Shaw had 6 points for MDI while Maddy Candage and Sierra Tapley each had 4 points for the Trojans. Grace Phillipon scored all 7 points for the Crusaders, including a 3-pointer.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI increased the lead 29-17 at the half. Tapley had 8 points for MDI, while Shaw had 4 points. For John Bapst, Hannah Philippon had 4 points, and Tia Zephir had a 3-pointer.
In the 3rd Quarter, MDI increased the lead to 49-23. Shaw had 8 points, Tapley had 5 points including a 3-pointer, while Athena Laurendau had a 3-pointer, her first varsity points. For John Bapst, Crystal Bell had a 3-pointer.
In the 4th Quarter, both teams put in their reserves, and MDI outscored John Bapst 18-2. Julia Watras had 5 points, Abbe Miller had a 3-pointer and Cassidy Parady had 2 points.
MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 22 points while Sierra Tapley had 17 points. All but one Trojan scored. MDI was 3-11 from the free throw line. Maya Watras did a fantastic job defensively, limiting Crystal Bell to just 1 3-pointer on the night.
John Bapst was led by Grace Phillipon with 9 points while Hannah Phillipon had 4 points. The Crusaders were 8-12 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 4-0, and plays host to 4-0 Houlton on Saturday, December 19th with the pregame beginning at 3:15 and tip-off at 3:30 on WDEA Internet Radio and AM 1370 WDEA.
John Bapst is now 3-2 and travels to play Presque Isle on Saturday, December 19th at 3 PM.
