MDI Girls 49 Ellsworth 35
On a night that Kelsey Shaw scored her 1000th point, the MDI Trojans defeated Ellsworth 49-35 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, in the last regular season game of the season. MDI finishes the season with a 17-1 record and Ellsworth finishes with a record of 11-7. MDI will have a bye in the playoffs and Ellsworth will have a home prelim game on Tuesday, February 3rd in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio
MDI took a 10-9 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Shaw had 4 points for MDI, scoring her 1000th point on a free throw. Athena Laurendeau had a 3-pointer and Keely McConomy had 3 points for the Trojans. For Ellsworth, Kate Whitney had 4 points, Sammy Mason had a 3-pointr and Madison Card had 2 points.
MDI outscored Ellsworth 16-12 in the 2nd Quarter, to take a 26-21 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Shaw had 8 points for MDI, Mariah Hamor had 4 points and Abbe Miller had a 3-pointer for MDI. For Ellsworth Card had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Hannah Sargent had a 3-pointer and Caitlyn Bean and Whitney each had 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter MDI expanded their lead, as they outscored Ellsworth 16-5 to take a 42-26 lead. Shaw had 8 points, Hamor had 6 points and McConomy had 2 points for the Trojans. Sammy Mason scored all of Ellsworth's 5 points including a 3-pointer.
In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth outscored MDI 9-7. Whitney had 4 points, Sargent had another 3-pointer and Mason had 2 more points for the Eagles. For MDI McConomy had 4 points, Julia Watras had 2 points and Shaw had 1 point.
MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 22 points while Mariah Hamor and Keely McConomy each had 10 points.
Ellsworth was led by Kate Whitney and Sammy Mason each of whom had 10 points.
MDI will finish number 1 or 2 in the Heal Points, depending upon whether Houlton defeats Mattanawcook Academy on February 4th.
Ellsworth will finish 5th or 6th in the Heal Points, depending upon whether John Bapst defeats Hermon on February 4th.
