MDI Falls to Winslow 49-18

The MDI Trojans traveled to Winslow on Saturday, September 21st in the hopes of snapping their streak of never having beaten the Black Raiders in Winslow. Unfortunately, they'll have to wait for the 2013 Playoffs or 2015 to have another chance, as Winslow beat MDI 49-18 on a beautiful afternoon for football.

MDI actually took a 6-0 lead over Winslow, as Teagan Candage scored on a 55 yard run, with 7:08 left in the 1st Quarter. The 2 point conversion failed, but MDI was on top 6-0.

Winslow scored less than a minute and a half later when Dylan Hapworth ran for a 49 yard touchdown run and then kicked the extra point, and with 5:46 left in the 1st Quarter Winslow was up 7-6.

Winslow had the ball to start the 2nd Quarter, and Zack Guptill scored on a 13 yard touchdown run. Hapworth rushed in for the 2 point conversion and Winslow led 15-6 with 11:16 left in the half.

MDI then scored 6 seconds later. Teagan Candage ran for 80 yards taking the ball from the MDI 20 and the score was 15-12 Winslow when the 2 point pass attempt was incomplete.

Winslow scored once more in the first half, Hapworth ran in from 12 yards out, and kicked the point after, and the first half ended with Winslow on top of MDI 22-12.

Unfortunately for MDI Winslow started the second half by scoring twice, as Hapworth ran in from 5 yards and 30 yards, kicking the extra point eachtime, and with 7:23 left in the 3rd Quarter it was Winslow 36 MDI 12.

Taner Bickford scored for MDI with 4:44 left in the 2rd Quarter, rushing it in the end zone from 5 yards out. The MDI two point conversion failed and the 3rd Quarter ended with Winslow on top 36-18.

Winslow would score twice more in the 4th Quarter. Guptill would rush for one touchdown from 4 yards out, and Jacob Trask scored from 10 yards out.

MDI falls to 2-1,and will be on the road at Belfast on Friday September 27th. That game will be aired on WDEA Internet Radio, with the pregame starting at 6:40 PM. Winslow improves to 3-0 and will be in action on Saturday, September 28th when they travel to Newport to play the Nokomis Warriors.
