The MDI Football team traveled to Waterville Saturday, October 11th, and it was a tough trip for the Trojans, as they fell to the Purple Panthers by the score of 46-20.

Waterville received the opening kick off at their 28 yard line, and ate up 7:20 before Dan Pooler ran in from 2 yards out to give Waterville an early lead, 7-0. This was a 16 play drive.

The Trojans finally got the ball for the first time in the 1st quarter on their own 8 yard line with 4:35 left in the 1st quarter, but were forced to punt the ball away, and Waterville took over on their own 35 yard line with 1:17 left in the 1st quarter.

Waterville would score 1:28 later, as Cam Thomas ran 55 yards for the touchdown. The point after attempt was no good, and Waterville led `13-0.

MDI would return the kickoff to the Waterville 28 yard line, and 8 plays and 4:16 later, Isaiah Keene caught a 6 yard pass from Colby Candage, as MDI was on the board. Birthday boy, Billy Laverdiere kicked the extra point, and with 7:22 left in the 1st half, Waterville led 13-7.

Waterville returned the kickoff to their 22 yard line, and then Dan Pooler fumbled, and MDI took over on the Waterville 27 yard line with 7:10 left. But the Trojans weren't able to advance the ball, and turned the ball over on downs, and Waterville took over on their 18 yard line with 5:11 left in the half.

Waterville's Pooler fumbled the ball again, and MDI recovered again on the Waterville 37 yard line with 3:32 left in the half. But again, the Trojans weren't able to capitalize, and were forced to punt the ball. Waterville took over on their own 11 yard line with 2:26 left in the half. Waterville scored with 47.3 seconds remaining in the half, as quarterback AJ Godin scored on a quarterback keeper from 1 yard out. The 2 point conversion was good, and Waterville led 21-7 at the end of the 1st half.

MDI received the ball to start the 2nd half, and returned the ball to their 29 yard line,  but were forced to punt the ball again. Waterville took over on their 22 yard line with 9:52 left in the 3rd quarter, and scored 3:08 later as Thomas scored from 22 yards out. The point after was good, and with 6:44 left in the 3rd quarter, Waterville was up 28-7.

MDI took the kick off back to their 39 yard line, but fumbled the ball and Waterville took over on their own 43 yard line with 3:21 left in the 3rd quarter. Jared Spear scored from 20 yards out, and the point after was no good. With 1:45 left in the 3rd Waterville led 34-7.

MDI then had a fantastic return from Taner Bickford, taking the ball all the way back to the Waterville 16 yard line with 1:31 left in the 3rd quarter. Bickford would power the ball in from 2 yards out with 11:56 left in the game, and Laverdiere's point after sailed through the uprights, and the score was Waterville 34 MDI 14.

Waterville would score twice more in the game. Spear ran the ball in from 59 yards out with 11:09 left, and the 2 point conversion was no good. Then Devon Begin scored from 6 yards out with 3:45 left in the game, and Waterville led 46-14.

MDI scored with 8.3 seconds left in the game when Colby Lee scored from 2 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good, and the final score was Waterville 46 MDI 20.

With the loss, MDI falls to 2-4 and plays host to Old Town Friday October 17th in Bar Harbor in a homecoming game. At that game, the MDI Hall of Fame Class for 2015 will be inducted. That game will be heard on AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
