MDI Falls to Hermon 49-14 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Trojan Football team traveled to Hermon for Homecoming and the Hawks defeated the Trojans 49-14 on Friday, September 28th.
MDI won the opening kickoff and elected to defer. Kicking off, Hermon returned the ball to their 38 yard line. Using a series of short passes, the Hawks marched down the field, with Garrett Trask running in from 2 yards out on the left side with 8:26 remaining in the 1st Quarter. Kaleb Goodine's extra point kick was good, and Hermon led 7-0. The drive took 7 plays and 3:27
MDI took the kickoff back to their 25 yard line, but after 7 plays were forced to punt, with Hermon taking over at their own 26 yard line.
The Hawks needed just 5 plays and 1:27 to score, with the scoring play coming from a 43 pass from Trask to Wyatt Gogan. Goodine's extra point was good, and Hermon led 14-0 with 2:55 remaining in the 1st Quarter.
MDI then return.ed the kickoff, but fumbled on the return, and Hermon had the ball on the Trojan 46 yard line with 2:46 remaining in the 1st Quarter. 2 plays later Trask ran in from 31 yards out, in a drive that took just 49 seconds. Goodine's extra point was good, and with 1:57 remaining in the 1st Quarter, Hermon led MDI 21-0.
The Trojans took over at their own 20 yard line, and proceeded to march up the field. The drive took 9 plays and 4:19, and Baylor Landsman scored from 2 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good, and with 9:29 remaining in the 1st Half Hermon led 21-6.
On the ensuing kickoff, Gogan took the ball on their own 22 yard line, and ran the ball back 78 yards for the touchdown return. The extra point by Goodine was good, and with 9:15 remaining in the 1st Half, Hermon led MDI 28-6.
MDI took over on their own 35 yard line, but after 6 plays turned the ball over on downs. Hermon took over on their own 49 yard line with 6:11 remaining in the 1st Half. The Hawks used 4:45 before Trask threw a 1 yard touchdown pass to Gogan. The extra point by Goodine was good, and with 26.1 seconds remaining, the Hawks led MDI 35-6.
MDI took the opening kickoff back to their 31 yard line. They took 10 plays to move the ball down the field, capped by Elijah Joyce's 4 yard touchdown run. Joyce then ran the ball inn for the 2 point conversion. With 6:41 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, Hermon led 35-14.
Hermon took over on their own 40 yard line, and MDI forced Hermon to punt the ball. But the Trojans were called for roughing the kicker, and the Hawks proceeded to score again with River Mullin scoring from 10 years out. Goodine's kick was good, and with 4:05 remaining in the 3rd Quarter the Hawks led 42-14.
MDI turned the ball over on downs and Hermon took over on the MDI 35 yard line with 49.1 seconds remaining in the 3rd Quarter. A few plays later Zach Tubbs ran in from 15 yards out. Goodine's extra point was good once again, and with 10:35 remaining in the game, Hermon led 49-14
The rest of the game was played in running time, with Hermon up by 35 points.
MDI now 1-4 will play at Nokomis in Newport on Saturday, October 6th at 1PM. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device. The game is also scheduled to be broadcast on the CW.
Hermon 4-1 will play host to Old Town on Friday, October 5th at 7PM.
