MDI Ekes Out Win In OT 46-44

The MDI Girl's Basketball Team eked out a 46-44 in overtime in Orono, defeating the Red Riots 46-44.

Orono led 11-4 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Hannah Clement had 6 points including a 3-pointer, while Kassidy Dill had a 3-pointer and Hannah Steelman had 2 points. For MDI Abbe Miller and Athena Laurendeau had 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter, MDI outscored Orono 18-6 to take a 22-17 lead at the end of the 1st Half. MDI was sparked by Kelsey Shaw who had 13 points, coming off the bench in the 2nd Quarter. Keely McConomy had 4 points and Miller had 1 point. For Orono Jordan Hernanded had 2 points and Lizzie White had 2 points.

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, MDI led 32-28. Shaw had 4 points, McConomy had 4 points and Mariah Hamor had 2 points for the Trojans.  For Orono Clement had a 3-pointer, and Emma Honey had 4 points, while Dill and Sydney Robertson had 2 points each.

In the 4th Quarter, Orono took the lead, but Shaw tied it at 39 at the end of regulation. For Orono Lizzie White had 8 points including 2 3-pointers. Clement had 2 points for Orono. For MDI Abbe Miller had a 3-pointer and Shaw had 4 points including the tying  basket.

In overtime, Shaw scored with 1:58 left to put MDI up 41-40. Keely McConomy went 2-2 from the free throw line with 1:13 left, to put MDI up 43-40. Shaw missed a free throw and it was still 43-40 with :43 seconds remaining. Orono's Lizzie White sank a basket with :33 seconds remaining and MDI led 43-42. Abbe Miller made a free throw, but the 2nd free throw she sank was waived off because of a line violation, and the Trojans led 44-42. Shaw's basket with :09 seconds remaining put MDI up 46-42. Sydney Robertson's shot at the buzzer went in, but the 2 points weren't enough, and MDI won in overtime 46-44.

MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with a game high 25 points while Keely McConomy had 10 points and Abbe Miller had 7 points. MDI was 7-13 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Hannah Clement and Kassidy Dill each of whom had 12 points, while Kassidy Dill had 8 points. The Red Riots were 7-14 from the free throw line.

MDI improved to 11-1. The Trojans play at Central High School on Monday, January 18th at 7 PM.

Orono fell to 4-8. The Red Riots play at Dexter on Monday, January 18th at 5:30 PM.
