The MDI Trojans beat the Ellsworth Eagles 28-27 in exhibition football, Friday, August 24th in Bar Harbor. The teams played stopped time in the 1st Half and running time in the 2nd Half, with no kickoffs and no rushing on extra points and punts.

MDI won the coin toss and chose to defer, with Ellsworth taking over on their own 35. Javon Williams started at quarterback for Ellsworth in the place of injured Connor Crawford. Williams found the end zone running in from 48 yards out with 10:24 left in the 1st Quarter to put the Eagles on the scoreboard. Hunter Fernald's extra point kick was no good and Ellsworth led 6-0.

MDI taking over on their own 35 yard line marched down the field, and less than 2 minutes later, new quarterback Baylor Landsman ran in from 4 yards out to tie the score. Alex Fernald's extra point kick was good, and MDI led 7-6 with 8:23 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

Ellsworth took over on their own 35 yard line and with 4:46 remaining in the 1st Quarter, Charlie Hughes scored from 4 yards out. Hunter Fernald converted the extra point kick and Ellsworth led 13-7.

It took MDI just 1 play to retake the lead when Elijah Joyce scored on a 65 yard run. Alex Fernald's point after attempt was good and with 4:34 remaining in the 1st Quarter MDI led 14-13.

Ellsworth was forced to punt, and MDI took over. With 10:25 remaining in the 1st Half, Elijah Joyce scored on another big run, this time from 32 yards out. Alex Fernald's kick was good and MDI led 21-13.

Ellsworth then turned the ball over on downs, and MDI took over but the snap was fumbled and Ellsworth took the ball back

The Eagles then scored, when Javon Williams ran in from 20 yards out for his 2nd touchdown of the game. Hunter Fernald's kick was good and Ellsworth trailed 21-20 with 5:44 remaining in the half.

MDI scored on a 41 yard pass from Landsman to Coady Modeen. Alex Fernald's point after kick was good and MDI led 28-20.

It stayed that way until there was 2:11 remaining in the game, when Dustin Duper scored from 32 yards out. Hunter Fernald's kick was good and MDI led 28-27 and that's the way the game ended.
