The MDI Trojans defeated the Ellsworth Eagles, 2-1 on a walk off hit by Jon Phelps in Bar Harbor on Tuesday, May 28th.

MDI got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the bottom of the second inning. Dylan "Boomer" Carroll was hit by a pitch thrown by Conor Maguire and reached first base. Carroll was sacrificed to second by Steven Hanscom, who was thrown out by the pitcher. Carroll then advanced to third, when Thomas Paola was thrown out by the pitcher. With two outs, Ryan Littlefield singled, knocking in Carroll.

It remained 1-0 until the top of the 4th inning, when Conor Maguire, reached first base on a walk. He stole second, and advanced to third base on a single by Nick Bagley. Maguire scored on a sacrifice fly to center, by Dustin Smelley.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Paola reached first on an error by the Ellsworth shortstop. He advanced to third on a one out single by Ryan Littlefield, and scored on Jon Phelps single to give MDI the 2-1 win.

Conor Maguire pitched a complete game taking the loss for Ellsworth. He allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, one of which was earned, walked 4 and struck out 5.

Thomas Paola went the distance for MDI, picking up the win. He allowed 6 hits, 1 run which was earned, walked 2 and struck out 10.

MDI is now 9-5 and has two games remaining, a away game against Old Town, and a home game against Foxcroft Academy, which are make up games from the past weekend that were rained out.

Ellsworth is 2-13 and has a game at Washington Academy left on it's schedule, postponed from April 25th.
