The MDI Trojans defeated the Ellsworth Eagles 54-49 on Wednesday night, January 6th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, thanks to their free throw shooting, going 23-29 from the charity stripe.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 18-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Bruce St. Peter had 6 points, Bryce Harmon had 5 points, Nick Bagley had 4 points including a 3-pointer and Alex Braley had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Riley Swanson drained 2 3-pointers for 6 points and Graham Good had 4 points for MDI.
Ellsworth led by as many as 12 points in the 2nd Quarter, but MDI was able to cut the lead to 5 points at the half, as Ellsworth led 25-20. 8 of MDI's 10 points in the quarter came from the free throw line, as the Trojans shot 8-10 from the line. Bagley had 5 of Ellsworth's 7 points. The Eagles went 1-5 from the free throw line in the 2nd Quarter.
