MDI 54 EHS 49 [Box Score]

The MDI Trojans defeated the Ellsworth Eagles 54-49 on Wednesday night, January 6th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, thanks to their free throw shooting, going 23-29 from the charity stripe.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 18-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Bruce St. Peter had 6 points, Bryce Harmon had 5 points, Nick Bagley had 4 points including a 3-pointer and Alex Braley had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Riley Swanson drained 2 3-pointers for 6 points and Graham Good had 4 points for MDI.

Ellsworth led by as many as 12 points in the 2nd Quarter, but MDI was able to cut the lead to 5 points at the half, as Ellsworth led 25-20. 8 of MDI's 10 points in the quarter came from the free throw line, as the Trojans shot 8-10 from the line. Bagley had 5 of Ellsworth's 7 points. The Eagles went 1-5 from the free throw line in the 2nd Quarter.

MDI took the lead 38-37 as the 3rd Quarter ended. Russell Kropp had 8 points for MDI, including 2 3-pointers. Drew Rich and Andrew Phelps had 3-pointers for the Trojans. MDI was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line in the quarter. Bryce Harmon had 4 points for Ellsworth, and Dylan Kelley had a 3-pointer for the Eagles.

In the 4th Quarter, MDI went 9-11 from the free throw line, as Kropff and Good were each a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Swanson hit his 3rd 3-pointer of the game. In the 4th Quarter, Bagley had 4 points, and St. Peter had 3 points for the Eagles.

MDI was led by Russell Kropff with 14 points and Riley Swanson and Graham Good had 11 points each. The Trojans were 23-29 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Nick Bagley with 16 points while Bryce Harmon had 11 points and Bruce St. Peter had 9 points. Ellsworth was 10-19 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 6-2 and will play host to Mattanawcook Academy on Saturday, January 9th at 5:30 PM.

Ellsworth is now 6-3 and travels to Houlton on Saturday, January 9th to play the Shiretowners at 2 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio .
