The MDI Trojans defeated the Ellsworth Eagles 5-0 on Thursday, April 30th at Ellsworth High School. With the victory MDI improved to 1-3 on the season and Ellsworth dropped to 0-3.

It was a pitcher's duel through 6 innings as Ellsworth sent their ace Conor Maguire to the mound, while MDI countered with their ace, Tom Paola. It was scoreless through 3 innings with Maguire striking out 5 and only allowing 3 hits. Paola was equally effective striking out 3 and allowing just 3 hits.

In the top of the 4th inning, MDI scored what would be the winning run. Riley Swanson singled, and advanced to 2nd on Paola's sacrifice bunt back to Maguire. Swanson advance to 3rd on a passed ball. Seth Young then reached on an error by the 2nd baseman.  Young then was picked off from 1st base on a nifty 1-3-6 play, with Swanson being forced to hold at 3rd. Swanson was driven home on a Dylan Collins single, and MDI had a 1-0 lead.

MDI added another run in the top of the 5th inning. After Jack Sasner grounded out, Stanley Grierson singled. Nick Stanley then walked. Seth Clark reached on a fielder's choice as Grierson was erased at third on a grounder to shortstop. After a passed ball which allowed Stanley and Clark to move to 3rd and 2nd, Riley Swanson singled scoring Stanley. MDI led 2-0.

Conor Maguire was replaced in the top of the 7th inning, as Charlie Libby came on to pitched. Through 6 innings Maguire allowed just 2 runs, walked 1, and struck out 7. Libby gave up 4 consecutive hits, Jacob Mitchell doubled to lead off the inning, Riley Swanson singled for his 3rd hit of the game, Paola doubled driving in a run, Seth Young singled driving in a run and Dylan Collins flew out to deep center, driving in MDI's final run.

Tom Paola got the win, pitching a complete game shutout, holding Ellsworth to 7 hits, striking out 8, and hitting a batter.

Griffin Nightingale had a single, Conor Maguire had a single, Mitchell Domagala was 2-3 with 2 singles, Nick Bagley had a single and Alex Braley had a single.

MDI plays host to Presque Isle in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2nd. Ellsworth's next game is Monday, May 4th when they play host to Washington Academy.
