MDI 43 Bucksport 22
The MDI Trojan offense erupted for just over 400 yards, with 351 on the ground as the MDI Football Team defeated Bucksport 43-22 at Carmichael Field in Bucksport on Friday, September 15th.
Colby Lee erupted for 288 yards on 21 carries, scoring 4 touchdowns. He would have had a 5th touchdown, but it was called back on offsetting personal foul calls on MDI and Bucksport. Lee also had an interception.
MDI won the opening toss and elected to receive. They returned the kick to their own 47 yard line. 2 plays later, Colby Lee ran in from 53 yards out for the 1st score of the night. James McConomy booted the extra point, and the Trojans led 7-0 with 11:04 left in the 1st Quarter.
Bucksport answered on their next series Taking over at theri own 34 yard line, they marched down the field and into the end zone with a 15 yard pass from Chase Carmichael to Carter Tolmansoff. The 2 point conversion attempt was no good, and MDI led 7-6 with 7:56 remaining in the 1st Quarter.
MDI then took over at their own 47 yard line. 5:09 later Elijah Joyce rumbled in from 1 yard out. McConomy’s extra point was good and the Trojans led 14-6 with 2:39 remaining in the 1st Quarter.
Bucksport then turned the ball over on downs, with the MDI defense stiffening, and the Trojans took over on their own 23 yard line with 11:11 remaining in the 1st Half. In a drive that took 5:23, Colby Lee capped it running in from 36 yards out. McConomy was again able to kick the extra point, and with 5:48 remaining in the 1st Half, MDI was up 21-6.
Bucksport answered again. with 43.7 seconds remaining in the Half, when Lucas Wardwell drifted out of the backfield, catching the pass from Carmichael from 2 yards out. The 2 point conversion was good, and at the end of the 1st Half MDI led 21-14.
Bucksport took the 2nd Half kickoff and took over at their own 38 yard line. In a drive that took just 1:26 Charmicael ran in from 1 yard out. The 2 point conversion was good, and with 10:28 remaining in the 3rd Quarter Bucksport led 22-21.
That would be the last time that Bucksport would lead in the game, as the Trojans then scored 22 unanswered points.
With 9:40 remaining in the 3rd, Lee ran in from 57 yards out in a drive that took just 1:04. The 2 point conversion was good, and MDI led 29-22.
The score was 37-22 when Abrahm Malloy caught a 24 yard pass from Andrew Phelps, with no Bucksport player within 10 yards of him. The 2 point conversion was good.
The final touchdown was scored by Colby Lee, running in from 31 yards out, in a drive that took just 56 seconds. The 2 point conversion was no good, and with 2:28 remaining in the 3rd Quarter MDI led 43-22.
Neither team would score in the 4th Quarter and the final score was MDI 43 Bucksport 22.
