A week after airing it out against Foxcroft Academy, the MDI Trojans returned to their roots, running the ball for a 24-14 win over the Belfast Lions in Bar Harbor on Friday, September 11th. The Trojans improved to 2-0 on the season, while Belfast fell to 0-2.

Belfast won the toss and elected to receive taking over at their own 44 yard line. 6 plays later they were forced to punt, and a botched punt resulted in MDI taking over on the Belfast 38 yard line with 7:28 left in the 1st Quarter. Seven plays later Taner Bickford went into the end zone from 6 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good, and with 4:39 left in the 1st Quarter MDI led 6-0.

Belfast would get the ball on their own 25 yard line for their 2nd possession and 6 plays later were forced to punt again.

MDI took over on their own 36 yard line with 11:51 left in the half, and 8 plays later Andrew Phelps connected with Taner Bickford for a 26 yard pass completion and the Trojans were in the end zone.The 2 point conversion was no good, and with 8:02 remaining in the half, MDI was up 12-0.

Belfast would make a concerted drive in the end of the 2nd half, as they took over on their own 28 yard line with 1:48 left in the half. They were able to move the ball down the field on 6 plays, before Ezra Johnson intercepted Drew Nealey's pass with 19.3 seconds left in the half. MDI then ran out the clock and at the end of the 1st Half, MDI led 12-0

MDI received the kick to start the 2nd Half, taking over at their own 36 yard line. 11 plays and 5:17 later, Croix Albee bulled in from the 1 yard line. The 2 point conversion was again no good, but with 6:35 left in the 3rd Quarter MDI led 18-0.

Belfast returned the kickoff and after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, they took over at midfield. 4 plays later they fumbled, and MDI took possession at their own 31 yard line with 4:32 left in the 3rd Quarter

5 plays later MDI was in the end zone courtesy of a Bickford 14 yard run, in a drive that lasted 2:16. The point after kick attempt was no good and MDI led 24-0 with 2:16 left in the 3rd Quarter.

In the 4th Quarter Belfast made it very interesting scoring 14 unanswered points. With 7:25 left in the game, Nealey ran in from 3 yards out, in a 5 play drive. The 2 point pass was good and it was 24-8.

The Lions scored again with 4:24 remaining in the game as Nealey ran in from 8 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good and MDI led 24-14.

The Lions then attempted an onside kick, and they recovered the ball, but the officials ruled that they recovered the ball when it had only gone 9 yards, so MDI took over and were able to run out the clock for the 24-14 victory.

MDI next plays Winslow at home on September 18th in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio.

Belfast plays host to Madison who are 2-0 on Friday, September 18th at 7 PM
