A search for a man who allegedly assaulted three people ended when he was found pinned under a stolen vehicle. Police have not disclosed how badly the victims were injured, but all three were admitted to the hospital.

Trooper Chuck Michaud says State Police were called to a New Limerick home Sunday morning to a report that several people had been assaulted. A State Police K-9 was called in to track Dustin Smith, who had fled the scene before they arrived.

While that search was underway, Troopers found a car that had crashed a short distance away. The vehicle had been stolen by Smith, and he crashed it after failing to negotiate a sharp turn on Station Road in New Limerick. He was ejected in the accident and was pinned beneath the vehicle.

Smith was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center. He's facing multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Police say the investigation is ongoing and Smith may face additional charges. The three assault victims were admitted to the hospital in Houlton.
