Maine’s Top 50 Road Challenges Include MDI and Bangor

A just released report by a national transportation research group lists a couple of "most needed" road repairs in our immediate area.

At an estimated cost of $14,000,000, TRIP lists a section of Route 3 beginning 0.57 of a mile westerly of Sand Point Road and extending easterly 4.80 miles to Route 233.  The report calls Route 3 "perhaps the most significant highway for the tourism industry in Maine", "carrying an estimate 10,317 vehicles per day.

The second challenge is the Union Street bridge in Bangor that spans Interstate 95.  the report says that the 194 foot span should be replaced at an estimate cost of $8,700,140.  Driving over the Union Street bridge is "an essential route to Bangor International Airport and the University of Maine at Bangor".

Other projects are listed including ones in Old Town/Milford, the Deer-Isle/Sedgwick Bridge, route 7 in Dexter, and Route 1 in Cherryfield.
