Maine Towns That You May Or May Not Be Able To Get To From Here
There are towns that may or may not be in Maine. They are familiar to the ear but may not be familiar to the eye. Do they really exist? Maybe.
The well-off Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, starred in the Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows on ABC television between the years 1966 and 1971. Exactly 1,225 episodes were made and Collinsport became almost as famous as the show itself. But, you can't get there from here, it's a fictional town.
While reluctantly serving his country in the Korean War, Hawkeye Peirce in the television show M.A.S.H. would always refer to Crabapple Cove as being his hometown. If you really dug into the show you'd know that Crabapple Cove was actually where his summer home was. Regardless, there is no Crabapple Cove in Maine. Can't get there from here.
Zuckerman's Farm was the fictional home of Wilbur the pig in Charlotte's Web, the famous children's novel written by the late E.B. White who resided on a Saltwater farm in North Brooklin, Maine. White did most of his writing within a small boathouse, but he did lose a pig on his farm and saw a small spider spinning a web there too, thus the inspiration. It may not have the same name as the farm in the book, but it does exist. You can get there from here.
For 12 seasons mystery writer Jessica Fletcher, played by Angela Lansbury, tracked down the bad guys in Cabot Cove, Maine. Murder, She Wrote turned into one of the most popular shows on television, and tourists flocked to the small, and very real Cabot Cove, a small area south of Kennebunkport. Yessah, you can get there from here.
Snow White and Prince Charming, the Evil Queen and Rumpelstiltskin, all reside in Storybrooke on Once Upon A Time, the fairy tale drama that airs on ABC TV. Can you actually walk the streets of Storybrooke? Well kind of, but you'd have to be on set which is outside of Vancouver, Canada. So no, it's not real, and you can't get there from here.
Bangor horror writer Stephen King has used Derry in many a novel, from It to 11/23/63. This town even has it's own water tower just like Bangor has a standpipe. Derry isn't real, although King fans believe it may be Etna. You can get to Etna, but you can't get to Derry from Etna, or anywhere else for that matter.
