Under the auspices of Team Impact, this matches children who are ill with collegiate teams. The UMaine Women's Ice Hockey Team embraced Maggie as one of their own tonight, giving her, her own locker in the locker room, presenting her with two jerseys, and taking her out on the ice during practice. Maggie even scored!
I spoke with Senior Assistant Captain Kelly McDonald from Lancaster, Ontario who told me that the women's ice hockey team is fully committed to being involved with the community, especially with young girls. They are looking to be role models here and in their hometowns. Through programs like this, and the summer camps they get a sense of community and like to give back!
I will tell you that the Men's Ice Hockey team gets all the publicity, but you couldn't find a nicer group of young ladies!
