The Boston Red Sox struggles continued into the series finale versus the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.

The Sox had a 3-1 lead versus the Royals, but surrendered four runs in the eighth inning to ultimately lose the contest by a score of 5-3.  Matt Barnes failed to record an out in relief as he gave up four runs on three hits.  Kelvin Herrera struggled in the ninth inning versus Boston, but was able to work around the trouble and the Sox left the bases loaded to end the game.

Drew Pomeranz picks up the no-decision, going 6.2 innings, with a walk and seven hits allowed.  One bright spot in the contest was that young third baseman Rafael Devers launched his second HR of his MLB career.

Boston is now 57-49 on the season and will still be a half of a game back in the AL East Standings after the Yankees lost to the Rays on Sunday 5-3.  The Sox will begin a three game home series with the Cleveland Indians on Monday.
