Thanks to Stu Marckoon, the Lamoine Town Administrator for passing this along, regarding the scheduled Town Meeting in Lamoine, for tonight, March 12th.

Statement Regarding Annual Town Meeting
March 12, 2014

The annual, open town meeting scheduled for Lamoine tonight, Wednesday, March 12, 2014, must convene at the Lamoine Consolidated School at 6:00 PM. Due to the severe winter storm that is predicted by the National Weather Service, a motion will be made at the meeting to adjourn the meeting until April 10, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the same location. It is the plan of the Board of Selectmen to have the Deputy Moderator who lives in Lamoine open the meeting and entertain that motion.

The Winter Storm Warning posted by the National Weather Service says that “sleet and freezing rain will result in very hazardous driving conditions”. The Selectmen do not wish to put the voters of Lamoine in harm’s way.

There is always the possibility that the motion won’t pass, and those present at the meeting will opt to conduct the business of the annual town meeting. The Board of Selectmen will meet on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM, and at that meeting will likely set April 10th as a date for a special town meeting on a petitioned question received in January. If the motion to adjourn to April 10 is approved, the business of the annual town meeting will resume on that date, followed by the special town meeting warrant.
