Do you have a teenager that has expressed an interest in joining one of the Island's Volunteer Fire Departments in the future? If so, they should consider enrolling in the Junior Firefighter Academy which will be held at Camp Beech Cliff  July 18-22. Volunteers are the lifeblood of these Fire Departments and they are constantly looking for more people to join and help protect our communities!

Members of Mount Desert, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Tremont Fire Department crews will train participants in basic firefighting techniques and skills. This is a great hands-on experience for anyone interested in learning the techniques and tricks of the trade. Training topics include: Firefighting Extinguishers and Equipment, Search and Rescue, Hydrant Maintenance and Truck Checks, Emergency Medical Care, Fire Prevention, and Dispatch and Communications. The week will culminate with a muster: a fun competitive relay of all the skills that have been taught throughout the program, featuring a rousing game of fire hose soccer! Cost: $200/$290
