MDI Senior Leila Johnston signed a letter of intent today, November 12, 2014 to attend Florida State University beginning next year, and will swim for the Division 1 Seminoles beginning in September 2015!

During her Freshman Year Leila was a member of the State Champion 200 Medley Relay Team and a member of the Runner Up State Class B Swim Team.

During her Sophomore Year, Leila was the State Champion in the 50 and 100 yard free style and 200 Medley Relay Team. She was also a member of the State Champion Class B Swim Team.

During her Junior Year, Leila was the State Champion in the 50 and 100 yard free style, setting state and meet records for both. She was a member of the 200 Medley Relay Team and 200 Freestyle Relay Team and the State Championship Team for Class B. She was the Swimmer of the Meet for the Class B State Championship Meet and received Swimmer of the Year from the Coach's Association as well as being selected First Team All State.

She will be swimming for the MDI YMCA Sharks and MDI High School Team this Winter.

Leila is the second MDI swimmer in recent history to swim for a Division 1 Swim Program, as Ian Carbone swam for the Texas Longhonrns
