Crews from Mount Desert Fire Department, along with members from the Southwest Harbor Fire Department, Tremont Fire Department, Acadia National Park Rangers, Maine Forest Service and Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service responded to a report of smoke just east of the Northeast Harbor Golf Course on Thursday, July 7th.

According to the Mount Desert Fire Department, Chief Mike Bender, Lieutenant Amilie Blackman and Firefighters Chapin McFarland and Ben Wallace were first on scene and quickly realized that the cause of the smoke was a brush fire about a half acre in size.

After a call for mutually aid, approximately 25 firefighters in total were on the scene for about four and a half hours to fully extinguish the fire.

Even with the rain that we received on Thursday, fire danger remains high and everyone needs to be careful when extinguishing fires and cigarettes.
