Congratulations to Corporal Christopher Smith of Hancock who was named Trooper of the Year by the Maine State Police on June 7, 2016.

Corporal Smith is a 8 year veteran with the Maine State Police, having joined the force in 2008. Previously he was a police officer in Mount Desert where he served for 4 years.

Smith patrols in Hancock and Washington counties and is based out of Ellsworth, assigned to Troop J.  He patrols with his canine partner Winger, who is the only drug detection dog in Troop J.

According to Colonel Robert Williams, Chief of the State Police, “Corporal Smith is one of the best field training officers in the State Police with a natural ability of instruct younger Troopers and he is a true role model."
