David Ortiz briefly wore some olympic gold, courtesy of Massachusetts gymnast Aly Raisman but it was the KC Royals winning the night, 6-3 over the Red Sox.

Raisman threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

And, when knuckeballer Steven Wright gave up five runs in the first inning many Fenway fans were wishing Raisman had stayed on the mound.

The first inning problems, combined with the Sox leaving runners on base killed them. The Sox were 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

The one bright spot - Mookie Betts had five hits and raised his average to .320.

The Sox fall a game behind Toronto for first place in the AL East after the Blue Jays won their Friday night game.

The Boston Red Sox take on the Kansas City Royals in the 2nd game of the 3 game series on Saturday night with the pregame starting at 6:25 and 1st pitch at 7:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
