He coached at Old Town for a year, and then went to help Ellsworth, when they resurrected their football program. and has been an assistant to Coach Duane Crawford ever since. McKay also played football in high school for Bar Harbor High School.

Now, the Little 10 Conference has decided to honor Toogie, by naming the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award after him. From now on, at the banquet in the fall, the top offensive lineman in the LTC will win the George "Toogie" McKay Offensive Lineman of the Year award.
