Honestly, this is a story that I never, ever thought that I would be writing, and it's taken me to Sunday afternoon to really have the results sink in. If you would have told me that the MDI Boys would have beaten Gardiner, and the Gardiner Girls would have beaten MDI I would have suggested that you were crazy, but that's precisely what happened yesterday at Tourney 2015 at the Cross Insurance Center.

Gardiner jumped out to a 14-13 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, and never looked back. Logan Granholm had 9 points including a 3-pointer, while Morgan Carver had 5 points, including a 3-pointer for Gardiner. For MDI Darcy Kanu had 5 points, Kelsey Shaw and Sierra Tapley each had 4 points.

Gardiner led at the half 27-21. Carver had 2 3-pointers, Savannah Vinton-Mullins had a 3-pointer, Granholm had 2 points as did Mary Toman for Gardiner. For the Trojans, Kelsey Shaw had 5 points, Sierra Tapley had 2 points and Molly Carroll at 1 point.

As the 3rd Quarter opened, MDI fans expected the Trojans to come out with one of their patented runs and take the lead for good. It was just the opposite, as Gardiner took a 9-0 run, and at the end of the 3rd Quarter the Tigers led by 18 49-31. You could sense that Gardiner was gaining confidence, and MDI didn't know how to react, as they were outscored in the 3rd Quarter 22-10. Passes that were normally made weren't, shots that normally fell, didn't and the momentum was fully on the Tiger's side. Carver had 9 points, including a 3-pointer. Toman had 7 points, Granholm had 3 points, and Leslie Steeves and Eleanor Luken each had 2 points for Gardiner. For MDI Shaw had 6 points, Sarah Phelps had 2 points, and Carroll and Kanu each had 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter, three of MDI's biggest offensive weapons fouled out, Sierra Tapley with 7:33 left, Kelsey Shaw with 2:50 left and Sarah Phelps with less than 1:30 left, and the Trojan's season came to a crushing end.

In the 4th Quarter, Phelps had 6 points, including a 3-pointer, Shaw 5 points including a 3-pointer, Carroll 4 points, Kanu 2 points and Keely McConomy 2 points for MDI who outscored Gardiner 19-13, but the deficit was just too much to make up. For Gardiner Carver had 6 points, Toman had 3 points, Lauren Chadwick has 2 points, Stevens had 2 point, and Granholm 1 point.

Gardiner was led by Morgan Carver with 24 points, while Logan Granholm had 15 points and Mary Toman had 12 points. Gardiner was 16-34 from the free throw line.

For MDI, Kelsey Shaw had 20 points, while Sarah Phelps and Darcy Kanu each had 8 points. The Trojans were 8-20 from the free throw line.

Gardiner now will play in the semi-finals on Wednesday. February 18th at 3:35 against Camden Hills. The MDI Trojans season ended, with a 18-1 record.
