A wider range of safety net programs will now be available for people who require the services of domestic violence agencies serving Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and funding challenges have brought about a collaboration, or merger of sorts, of Womancare in Dovercroft and and Spruce Run in Bangor.

Spruce Run's Program Coordinator, Amanda Cost, says the merger will create the SpruceRun Womancare Alliance.

"It should be a seamless transition for the people who use our services and our community partners," states Cost. "What we're doing is trying to ensure that high quality services will continue and we feel the best way to do that is to do it together."

A special ceremony hosted by Governor Paul R. LePage to highlight domestic violence awareness, support victims and celebrate advocates who dedicate themselves to eradicating the violence will take place at the State House today.
