Lightning has been making more appearances this week than celebrities at political conventions.

First, there was the strike atop New York City's Empire State Building. Now, there's video of lightning hitting a wooden pole in Chicago during a driving rainstorm

The lightning left its mark -- it split the pole into a seemingly infinite number of pieces, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that while lightning is an awesome sight, it is nothing to mess with. One minute the pole is there, the next it's sprayed into pieces like uncorked champagne along the roadway.
