Normally, I try to steer clear of religion and politics on the WDEA website, but I wanted to bring this to your attention. It seems that Facebook is targeting priests and nuns, requiring them to change their names, and not use their religious titles in the their name. So, Father Kyle Doustou, a Roman Catholic priest based in Caribou was forced to change his name to Kyle Doustou, on Thursday, during the most sacred week for Catholics, Holy Week.

There is a group on Facebook, Allow Catholic Priests to keep the title Father in their Name on Facebook. If you are concerned about this, I would invite you to join this group. If you are a Catholic, you address priests and nuns as Father and Sister. They have gone to school for many years, made many sacrifices to serve their congregations and dioceses. It just seems arbitrary.

Many priests and nuns are using social media to reach out with younger members. They also use it to keep in touch with their families. There's a lot of good things about Facebook, this arbitrary change, isn't one of them.
