    Start With a Pancake Breakfast!

The best way to start the 4th of July is always to share some food and good cheer with the community. A pancake breakfast will be held across the river, at the Brewer Auditorium.

For just $6 for adults and $3 for children, you can enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast and visit with your neighbors before the parade!

    Next is the Parade!

The 4th of July parade unites the communities of Bangor and Brewer each year by traveling through both. The parade will line up in the Hannaford parking lot in Brewer.

It steps off at 11 a.m., traveling down Wilson Street in Brewer and across the Chamberlain Bridge. On the Bangor side of the bridge, participants will turn right and travel down Main Street. At the light, the parade will again turn right by Mexicali Blues, travel up State Street, and will finally turn right onto Exchange Street where it will break up at Key Plaza.

Chords for Cure Concert on Waterfront

A free concert on the Bangor Waterfront will benefit the fireworks display and two very worthy organizations that help sick kids. The concert will feature the music of Maine-and-Montreal-based Rolling Stones' tribute band, the Stone Doctors.

It's a free show, but there will be buckets circulated during the concert, asking for contributions. Donations will be divided up between the fireworks display, the pediatric oncology unit at Brewer's Lafayette Family Cancer Center, and the new Neo-natal ICU due to open next year at Eastern Maine Medical Center. The concert starts at 9:00 so you'll have a perfect place to watch the fireworks, with musical accompaniment!

    Last But Not Least...Fireworks!

Bangor's fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. on the Bangor Waterfront. Chords for Cure founder and member of the Bangor 4th of July Committee Ian Dickey told us it's quite possibly the largest fireworks display in the state this year!

One thing to keep in mind for attending the fireworks include being courteous of the people around you. If you're sitting in a large crowd, it's probably not the right place to set off your own fireworks. I know a man last year who had a firework shot into the back of his canvas chair. It's dangerous and irresponsible.

And, if you're setting off your own fireworks, be sure to check with your town sometime this week to learn more about the town ordinance. There are some areas where you can't shoot them off, and many towns have time restrictions.

Some friendly reminders - don't drink alcohol when driving, boating, or using fireworks. We hope everyone has a happy, fun, and safe 4th of July weekend!
