On a cold, rainy, blustery afternoon, that was more reminiscent of April than June, the Ellsworth Eagles defeated the Erskine Academy Eagles 6-2 in Ellsworth, to move on in the Class B baseball playoffs.

Ellsworth sent the PVC co-pitcher of the year, Conor Maguire to the mound and he didn't disappoint. Maguire pitched a complete game for the win, throwing 115 pitches. He allowed 2 runs, both earned. He struck out 6, walked 3 and allowed 4 hits.

Ryan Rodrigue took the loss for Erskine Academy. He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 6 runs, 5 of which were earned. He struck out 4, walked 5 and allowed 8 hits. Zack Glidden pitched 1.2 innings in relief, giving up 1 hits, striking out 1 and walking 1.

Conor Maguire walked to start the bottom of the 1st inning and stole 2nd base. He advanced 3rd base on Avery Anderson's sacrifice. Nick Bagley, another 1st Team PVC All-Star, singled, driving in Maguire. Griffin Nightengale's double drove in Bagley, and then Chris Barnes' double drove in Nightengale. That made it 3-0 Ellsworth!

Ellsworth added another run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Conor Maguire singled to start the inning. As he started to steal 2nd, the ball got away from the Erskine Academy catcher and he advanced to 3rd base. He then scored on an error, that allowed Anderson to reach base.

Erskine Academy scored it's 2 run in the top of the 3rd inning. Nate Martin singled and then went to 2nd on a walk to Tyler Bailey. Ryan Rodrigue singled scoring Martin. Bailey scored on a ground out by Caleb Cummings.

Ellsworth scored it's final 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. With one out, Nightengale walked and then Zack McGraw was hit by a pitch. Barnes walked loading the bases. Singles by Alex Braley and Bradly Smith drove in Nightengale and McGraw, to make the final score Ellsworth 6 Erskine Academy 2.

For Ellsworth Conor Maguire was 2-4, Avery Anderson 1-2, Nicholas Bagley 1-3, Griffin Nightengale was 2-2, Chris Barnes was 1-2, Alex Braley was 1-1 and Bradly Smith was 1-2.

For Erskine Academy Ryan Rodrigue was 1-2, Caleb Cummings was 1-3, Cody Beaudoin was 1-3 and Nate Martin was 1-2.

Ellsworth the #8 seed is now 10-7. Erskine Academy the #9 seed finishes the season at 10-7. Ellsworth now will play the #1 seed Old Town, at Old Town on Thursday, June 11th at 3:30 PM. Most of the Old Town team was at the game scouting.
