The Ellsworth Girl's Softball Team handed Old Town only their 2nd loss of the season, beating the Coyotes in Old Town on Friday, May 13th 6-5, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning.

It was a very closely played game but Old Town took the lead 3-2 when Old Town had a runner at 3rd. The Old Town batter hit a hot shot grounder to Hannah Sargent at 3rd who faked a throw to 1st. The runner took off for home and Sargent threw home. The Eagles then had the runner in a rundown, but unfortunately for the Eagles, they weren't able to complete the play, and the runner slid home after about 4 throws.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Old Town added to their lead by scoring 2 runs, to lead 5-2 and things looked bleak for the Eagles as they came up for their last bats.

Breann Cummings hit a flyball to center that the centerfielder misplayed for an error. Abby Lynch and Hannah Sargent walked, to load the bases. Two outs later with the bases still loaded, Leah Stevens and Katelynn Bagley both walked on 3-2 pitches, to draw Ellsworth within 1 run 5-4.  Caitlin Bean then stroked a single to right field, scoring Abby Lynch for the tying and Leah Stevens for the go-ahead runs.

In the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs McKenna Smith doubled for the Coyotes. Olivia Albert hit a little flare over Kate Whitney's head in the pitcher's circle, but Bagley made a diving catch to save the win for the Eagles!

Ellsworth is now 7-2 and plays at Foxcroft Academy on Tuesday, May 17th at 3:30 PM.

Old Town is 8-2 and plays at Hermon on Tuesday, May 17th at 4:30 PM.
