The Ellsworth Eagles Softball Team was playing their last regular season game, and quite possibly the last high school softball game ever for Seniors Katelynn Bagley, Shelby Cote, Emily Hart, Hannah Sargent and Mariah Young. Ellsworth needed to beat MDI to qualify for the prelims, and thanks to a 7 run 6th inning, the Eagles qualified for the prelims, beating MDI 9-3 on Tuesday, May 29th.

Ellsworth took advantage of MDI's poor fielding as the Trojans committed 8 errors. Sara Shea, batting leadoff for Ellsworth was 3-4 with a stolen base. Kayla Duhaime was 3-4 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Katelynn Bagley was 2-3 with  double and 3 RBI's. Katie Hammer had a single.

Mackenzie Chipman picked up the win for Ellsworth, pitching a complete game. She allowed 3 runs. 1 of which was earned and 3 hits.. She struck out 7 and walked 4.

Lindsey McEachern took the loss for MDI. Of the 9 runs she allowed, only 3 were earned. She struck out 7 and walked 2.

For MDI Hannah Chamberlain was 2-3 with a double. Lindsey McEachern had a single. Maddie Neale had a stolen base.

Ellsworth finishes the regular season with a 6-10 record. MDI finishes the season with a 9-7 record.

Both teams have qualified for the Class B North playoffs and will play prelim games on Tuesday, June 5th. They will be the 13th and 14th seeds, the last 2 teams to qualify for the playoffs. Helper points will determine whether MDI or Ellsworth finish 13th or 14th. The final day of the regular season is Wednesday, May 30th.
