Ellsworth Moves to Finals [PHOTOS]
The Ellsworth Eagles defeated the Waterville Panthers on Saturday afternoon, October 31st, by the score of 5-2, and will play host to Erskine Academy on Wednesday, November 4th, in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 33:19 remaining in the 1st half, when Alex Braley headed the ball into the net off of a Lukas Firestone flip throw.
It was 2-0 when Firestone headed in a Kyle Golding corner kick with 29:21 remaining in the 1st Half.
Waterville cut the lead in half, when Michael Oliveira scored with 26:21 remaining in the half.
Ellsworth added another goal, to make the score 3-1, when Dagin Bereyni scored with an assist from Colby Clarke with 16:36 remaining in the 1st Half. That's the way the 1st Half ended, with Ellsworth on top 3-1
Ellsworth added an insurance goal with 36:24 remaining in the game. Dagin Bereyni took a penalty kick after an Eagle was dragged down in the box. Beryni's kick was partially blocked by Jackson Aldrich, the Waterville goalkeeper, but the rebounded bounced back to Bereyni who calmly put home the rebound past the prone goalie.
Jack McKechnie scored Ellsworth's final goal with 23:39 remaining in the game to make the score 5-1 Eagles.
Oliveira scored his second goal of the game for Waterville with 1:28 left in the game to make the score 5-2 Ellsworth.
Bruce St. Peter made 7 saves for Ellsworth, while Jackson Aldrich made 12 saves for Waterville.
The game was chippy, with a total of 7 yellow cards issued including a red card to Waterville's Brandon Brown-Exner who picked up 2 yellows.
Erskine Academy defeated Presque Isle 1-0 in double overtime
