Ellsworth, MDI Weekly Newspapers Sold To Rockland Businessman

The owner of The Ellsworth American and Mount Desert Islander has entered into a purchase and sale agreement for the two weekly newspapers with a Rockland businessman.

Reade Brower, who owns six of the state's seven daily newspapers along with 19 weeklies, will control the two weeklies when the sale is completed on Aug. 31.

Alan Baker, the current owner of the two weeklies, made the announcement on Wednesday.

The terms of the sale were not disclosed.
