The Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team won their 5th game in a row, defeating the Orono Red Riots Monday afternoon, 51-45 December 31st at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth.

Orono led the game until Sierra Andrews tied the game 27-27 with 6:25 left in the 3rd Quarter. Kayla Duhaime then gave Ellsworth its 1st lead, 29-27 with 5:50 left in the 3rd Quarter. Ellsworth would never relinquish that lead.

Orono jumped out to a 21-14 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Ellie Sockabasin dominated in the paint for the Red Riots, scoring 9 points. Alyssa Labelle scored 5 points with a 3-pointer, Lauren Melanson had 4 points, Izzy Baker 2 points and Molly McCluskey was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth Trinity Montigny and Samantha Carter each had 2 3's for 6 points, and Kayla Duhaime had 2 points.

Ellsworth outscored Orono 7-4 in the 2nd Quarter to cut Orono's lead to 1 point 25-24 at the end of the 1st Half. For Ellsworth Motigny scored 4 points, Sara Shea and Duhaime each had 2 points and Kylie Robidoux was 2-2 from the free throw line. For the Red Riots Labelle and Lauryn Brown each had 2 points.

Ellsworth outscored Orono 14-6 to take a 38-31 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Carter and Duhaime had 4 points each for Ellsworth, Shea and Sierra Andrews drained 3-pointers for the Eagles. For Orono Sockabasin had 3 points, Labelle 2 points and Melanson was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Montigny had 8 points for Ellsworth, with a 3-pointer. Andrews had 3 points and Autumn Paul had 2 points. For the Red Riots, McCluskey had 6 points, Labelle and Melanson 3 points each and Sockabsin 2 points.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny with a game high 18 points. Samantha Carter had 10 points and Kayla Duhaime 8 points. Ellsworth was 5-11 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Ellie Sockabasin with 14 points and Alyssa Labelle had 12 points. The Red Riots were 12-17 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 6-1 and plays at Washington Academy on Thursday, January 3rd at 6:30PM in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Orono is 2-5 and will play host to Hermon on Wednesday, January 2nd at 7PM
