Ellsworth Falls to Dexter 27-8

The Ellsworth-Sumner Football team played their best game of the season on Friday, October 10th, but it wasn't quite good enough, as the Dexter Tigers defeated the Eagles at Ellsworth High School by the score of 27-8.

Ellsworth received the ball to start the game and carried it back to their 30 yard line. During their opening series, they fumbled the ball and Dexter took over on the Ellsworth 34 yard line.

One play later, Zach White ran the ball in 34 yards getting around the end and when Dexter's point after attempt sailed wide left, Dexter led 6-0.

Ellsworth would get the ball back at their own 32 yard line with 9:30 left in the 1st Quarter. The Eagles went 68 yards in 2:46 as Conor Petros would go in from 7 yards out to tie the score. Ellsworth's 2 point conversion was good, and Ellsworth led 8-6. I believe that this was the first lead that Ellsworth has had all season!

Dexter would take the lead back for good, as Zach White would score his 2nd touchdown of the night, going in from 5 yards out with 48.8 seconds left in the 1st quarter. The 2 point conversion was no good, and Dexter led 12-8.

Dexter would score again in the 1st half, when Adam Wintle caught a 14 yard pass from Matt Bartlett with 4:28 left . The 2 point conversion was good, and Dexter led 20-8 at the end of the 1st half.

Both team's defenses played well in the 2nd half, and there were no scores in the rest of the game, until Dexter took over on the Ellsworth 25 yard line with 3:17 left in the game. Quarterback Matt Bartlett ran the ball in from 5 yards out with 59.3 seconds left. The point after attempt was good and Dexter led 27-8.

Dexter would get the ball one more time on the Ellsworth 21 yard line with 50.2 seconds left in the game, but in a show of great sportsmanship by Coach Kevin Armstrong and the rest of the Dexter Tigers, the Dexter team took a series of knees to end the game, with Dexter winning 27-8.

Ellsworth plays host to Mattanawcook Academy next Friday night, October 17th at 7 PM. Dexter plays host to Washington Academy on Saturday October 18th at 1 PM.
