It was a great season, but unfortunately the Ellsworth Eagles fell just a bit short in their pursuit of the Gold Ball, as the Ellsworth Eagles fell to the Lake Region Lakers 63-47 on Friday night, February 26th in the Class B State Championship game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Lake Region jumped out to a 19-14 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter in an up and down quarter. For Ellsworth Bruce St. Peter had 6 points, Nick Bagley had a 3-pointer while Bryce Harmon, and Zach Harris each had 2 points and Kyle Golding had 1 point. For Lake Region Nate Smith had 6 points including a 3-pointer, Marcus DeVoe had 3 points and Tyler Walker, Brandon Palmer, Nick Wandishin, Jackson Lesure and Alex Langadas had 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored Lake Region 10-9 to cut the lead to 4 points at the end of the 1st Half, 28-24. For Ellsworth, St. Peter had 5 points, Harmon had 3 points and Golding 2 points. For Lake Region, DeVoe had 3 points, and Palmer, Wandishin and Smith all had 2 points.

Ellsworth was getting outrebounded 17-11 in the 1st Half and only had 1 offensive rebound.

In the 3rd Quarter, Lake Region went on a 16-0 run, before Nick Bagley finally scored for Ellsworth with 2:55 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. The Lakers outscored Ellsworth 18-5 to take a commanding 46-29 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For Lake Region, Lesure had 8 points, DeVoe and Wandishin each had 4 points, while Smith had 2 points. For Ellsworth Bagley had 3 points and Golding had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter, Zach Harris had 5 points including a 3-pointer, St. Peter had 4 points, Bagley and Charlie Kibbey each had a 3-pointer and Golding had 3 points. For Lake Region, Smith, Langadas, and Lesure each had 4 points, while Walker had 3 points and DeVoe had 2 points.

Ellsworth was led by Bruce St. Peter with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Nick Bagley had 9 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle Golding had 7 points and Nick Bagley had 6 points. Ellsworth was 11-17 from the free throw line. Ellsworth was 4-16 from 3-point land and shot 16-50 from the field.

Lake Region was led by Nate Smith with 14 points and 7 rebounds while Jack Lesure had 14 points and 5 rebounds. Marcus DeVoe had 12 points and 4 rebounds and Alex Langadas had a game high 9 rebounds. Lake Region was 12-15 from the free throw line and 1-13 from 3-point land. They were 25-54 from the field.

It was Lake Region's first Gold Ball since 1985 when Lake Region defeated Dexter 58-56. Ellsworth last won the State Title in 1966 and lost to Cape Elizabeth in 1988 70-54.
