Ellsworth Doubles Up W.A. 8-4
The Ellsworth Eagles picked up their second win of the season, doubling up the Washington Academy Raiders, 8-4, on Monday, May 5th in a game that was played at Ellsworth High School.
Ellsworth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Steven Mahon reached on an error by the Washington Academy shortstop and then promptly scored when Conor Maguire banged a triple. Maguire scored on a two out single by Cooper Henderson.
Ellsworth made it 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Nick Bagley reached on another error on the Washington Academy shortstop and then scored when Hunter Cote doubled to left.
It was 5-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Conor Maguire and Sid St. Peter both scored.
Ellsworth would make it 8-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning as they scored 3 more times. Mahon singled to start off the inning. Brandon Braley singled and then Sid St. Peter tripled, driving in Mahon and Braley. St. Peter scored on a sacrifice fly by Cooper Henderson.
Washington Academy scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Kyle Taylor singled, and Fred Maclean reached on a fielder's choice. Colin Pineo doubled driving in a run and then Cameron Varney singled driving in another run. Pineo and Varney would both score, but Charlie Libby came on and struck out the last two Washington Academy Raiders.
Washington Academy is now 3-1. They play at home Wednesday, May 7th against Lee Academy at 4:30 and at home against Bucksport on Friday, May 9th at 4:30.
