Michelle Beal has tendered her resignation as Ellsworth's City Manager. She announced on Friday that an opportunity presented itself for her to take a high-level position with a law firm.

According to the Ellsworth American, Beal will become the Administrator/Chief Operating Officer at Rudman Winchell in Bangor. Her resignation is effective March 20th. Beal told the EA that she wasn't looking for a new job, but couldn't resist this opportunity when it presented itself.

City officials told the EA that they will immediately begin looking for an interim City Manager, so Beal can work with them before she leaves. Once that person is in place, a search will begin for a permanent replacement.

Beal has been a city employee since 1995, working in the Treasurer's office. She served as interim City Manager in 2003 -2004 when Tim King left, while still working as finance director. She returned to her job as finance director, but was named permanent City Manager in 2007, upon the departure of Steve Gunty.
